Young people in Bihar now have a chance to learn job skills while earning solid financial support every month. Through the Pradhan Mantri Internship Yojana, they can train at the country's leading companies and gain real, hands-on industry experience. A student selected under the scheme can receive more than ₹17,000 in monthly assistance. In Begusarai and several other districts of the state, the online application process is currently open.
Launched on the initiative of PM Modi, the scheme aims to make young people skilled and connect them to employment. Its biggest advantage is that trainees get financial backing during their training, while also building an easier path to a future job.
How much you get and from where
Under the scheme, the government pays selected candidates ₹8,100 every month. On top of that, the company hosting the internship provides a separate stipend as per its own rules. Once both amounts are combined, a student keeps receiving more than ₹17,000 a month. This means training comes bundled with pocket money and steady financial support.
Who runs the scheme
Employment officer Rana Amitesh said the central government started the scheme to prepare young people for jobs and equip them with skills that match what industries need. It is run by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. In Bihar, the Youth Employment and Skill Development Department has been made the nodal department for its implementation. Internship lasts 9 to 12 months
The internship period under the scheme can range from 9 months to 12 months, depending on the company. Different companies decide the duration according to their own needs and post vacancies on the portal on that basis. Many large companies offer these opportunities, where trainees experience an actual workplace. That, in turn, raises their chances of landing a job later.
How to apply
A dedicated online portal has been built for the scheme, where several reputed companies list internship openings. Interested youth can register on the portal and apply according to their qualifications. After applying, they can pick an internship from the available options based on their eligibility and interest. Those selected get an internship at the relevant company for a fixed period. For more details, students can also visit their district employment department and apply from there. For now, online applications for the scheme remain open.
