A twenty-six-year-old new mother mysteriously went missing from a private medical facility located in the Jandra area under the Katghora police station limits, only to be found dead the very next day. The deceased has been identified as Kanta Kewant, who took this extreme step just a day after delivering a baby at the facility. This tragic occurrence has raised serious concerns regarding hospital security and the immense financial pressures families face during medical emergencies. Local law enforcement authorities arrived at the scene immediately upon receiving information, registered a case for investigation, shifted the body for a post-mortem examination, and initiated comprehensive legal proceedings to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
According to available details, Kanta Kewant, a newly married resident of Chhurikala, experienced labor pains on September tenth, prompting her husband Ajay Kewant to admit her to a private hospital in Katghora. Medical professionals performed a Caesarean section procedure, through which she gave birth to an infant. Shortly after delivery, the newborn's health deteriorated, compelling doctors to transfer the baby immediately into the neonatal intensive care unit. Family members stated that Kanta grew extremely anxious and fell into deep mental distress due to the infant being admitted to the ICU and the continuously mounting heavy expenses required for the medical treatment. Around seven o'clock on Monday evening, she stepped out of the hospital premises without informing anyone and failed to return for a prolonged period, causing panic among her attendants who could not find any trace of her.
The family searched frantically throughout the night and into Tuesday morning to locate the missing woman. Ultimately, by Tuesday afternoon, her body was discovered hanging from a tree amidst bushes in a villager's orchard situated merely one hundred meters away from the hospital. Preliminary assessments indicate that financial hardship following childbirth, mental stress stemming from the newborn's illness, and subsequent depression served as the primary triggers for this drastic step. Nevertheless, the police are conducting a meticulous investigation into various other angles to ascertain all contributing factors. Commenting on this sensitive issue, medical college psychiatrist expert Dr. Ankit Gupta explained that rapid hormonal fluctuations occur within a woman's body following pregnancy and childbirth, rendering her temperament exceptionally vulnerable. He emphasized that families must maintain a supportive environment during the initial ten days postpartum, noting that maternal stress escalates drastically if an infant falls ill or requires ICU admission, during which relatives must strictly avoid reprimanding or taunting the mother.
