A high-level review meeting regarding the future roadmap of the Indian cricket team was held on September 3 at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. The crucial gathering was attended by Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, T20 captain Shreyas Iyer, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman, and the head coach of Team India. Discussions during the meeting centered around preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup alongside ways to elevate the squad's performance in SENA countries, namely South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. India's upcoming international assignment is an away tour to New Zealand featuring series across all three formats. At present, several key players are grappling with injuries, creating a major headache for the management. Following the conclusion of the discussions, the board secretary spoke about impending modifications to the Future Tours Programme and outlined fresh plans specifically tailored for SENA tours.
Adequate rest and practice before major series
Addressing developments after the Mumbai meeting, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the board will work proactively to ensure that players receive ample rest ahead of any major series in SENA countries. Furthermore, the visiting players must get sufficient time to acclimatize to local conditions, which includes arranging proper practice matches. The sole challenge before the board is the sheer volume of matches crowded into the annual calendar, which is why officials are aiming for specific adjustments in the upcoming FTP. Relevant authorities have already been directed to work on these aspects expeditiously so that players get adequate recovery windows between demanding assignments.
Roadmap finalized for the upcoming year
The meeting also featured a detailed review of the team's recent performances during their tours of England and Ireland. Elaborating on this, secretary Devajit Saikia noted that authorities evaluated the outcomes of those assignments and successfully formulated a comprehensive roadmap for the next twelve months. The primary objective remains steadfastly focused on preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, with targeted practice fixtures and strategic camps mapped out to build optimal squad readiness.
