Brook currently serves a two-year ban from the cash-rich league, having last played in the 2023 season for Sunrisers Hyderabad. During that particular campaign, he caused a major sensation by smashing a brilliant century against Kolkata Knight Riders, but his form nosedived dramatically right after that milestone, triggering a wave of heavy backlash. He has now opened up about how that entire episode affected him both on and off the field.
The Steep Decline After a Memorable Century
Despite scoring a phenomenal century against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023, Harry Brook could manage only 190 runs across the entire season. Following that standout knock, his batting form collapsed entirely, putting him under immense pressure regarding his performances. Reflecting on that testing phase, Brook explained that the excessive attention he received during the tournament affected him deeply as an individual, impacting both his professional and personal spaces on and off the field.
Navigating the Trap of Social Media and Backlash
Elaborating on his mental struggles during that period, Brook revealed that while he was playing in the IPL, he got caught up in the vicious labyrinth of social media and harsh criticism. He admitted that it did not help him either as a player on the pitch or as a person away from it. Consequently, he made a conscious decision that while he might not completely abandon social media, he would no longer take the initiative to actively seek it out or browse through the noise.

Brook has since changed the way he processes negative remarks, choosing to look at criticism from a completely different vantage point. He believes that if people are actively criticizing him and sharing opinions about his game, it serves as a backhanded form of praise. The Two-Year Ban and Future Return to the IPL
It is worth noting that Harry Brook has not featured in the tournament since the conclusion of the 2023 season. After being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals acquired him for 4 crore rupees ahead of the 2024 season. However, he had to withdraw from the 2024 tournament following the sad passing of his grandmother. Delhi Capitals bought him back for 6.25 crore rupees at the 2025 mega auction, but he eventually pulled out once again to prioritize his international cricket commitments. As a result of this withdrawal under Board of Control for Cricket in India regulations, Brook was slapped with a two-year ban from the league and will now become eligible to return only at the 2028 mega auction.
