This specific article relates to inappropriate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee, or any other individual during an international fixture. Consequently, the authorities imposed a fine of 25 percent of their respective match fees on both players alongside one demerit point added to their disciplinary records. Officials noted that the penalty was kept relatively lenient because both individuals maintained a clean disciplinary record over the preceding 24 months without any prior breaches.
How the Altercation Unfolded on Day One in Colombo
The incident occurred during the 17th over of India's first innings on the opening day of the match. Sri Lanka bowler Asitha Fernando dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, prompting the batsman to walk toward the bowler as words were exchanged between the two competitors. During the confrontation, Fernando moved his head forward toward Jaiswal, who simultaneously ducked down, causing their heads to make contact. On-field umpires immediately rushed between the players to separate them and restore order. Authorities confirmed that both cricketers subsequently accepted their respective offences, eliminating the need for any formal disciplinary hearing.

Before his dismissal in this innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on converting his start into a substantial score.
