Under the captaincy of Ishan Kishan, the East Zone team successfully advanced to the semi-finals of the Duleep Trophy 2026. Kishan secured this massive victory against North East Zone in what marked his 65th first-class match. East Zone triumphed over North East by an innings and a huge margin of 210 runs. Prior to this fixture, he played his 64th first-class encounter in November 2025 against Baroda in the Ranji Trophy. Since then, he has featured in a total of 59 matches across domestic and international formats combined.
The Difficulty of Transitioning Between Formats
Having played a heavy diet of white-ball cricket, adapting to the red-ball format has not been a straightforward task for Kishan. Speaking during the Duleep Trophy matches taking place in Bengaluru, he explained that making a swift shift from one format to another is far from easy for players. When transitioning from white-ball cricket to the red-ball game, the entire approach and match conditions change completely. Nevertheless, he believes that adjusting oneself according to different formats is precisely what brings the true challenge and joy to this sport.
A Glimpse Into a Cricketer Life and Career Stats
The left-handed batsman further elaborated that people must understand how demanding a cricketer life can be. To an outsider watching from the stands, everything looks simple as players walk onto the field, play the game, and walk off. However, reality is quite different because players carry constant thoughts in their minds wherever they go. Looking at his international resume, Kishan has represented India in 32 ODIs and 55 T20Is so far, alongside featuring in 134 matches in the Indian Premier League. When it comes to Test cricket, however, he has managed to play just 2 Test matches for the country.
Desire to Return to the Test Team
When asked whether he aspires to be a part of the Test team once again, Kishan responded affirmatively with 100 percent conviction. He stated that anyone who has experienced playing Test cricket will undoubtedly fall in love with the format. The red-ball game carries its own unique significance and substantially improves a player overall game. Kishan noted that people might not believe him, but he genuinely finds immense joy in red-ball cricket, adding that his primary objective remains scoring runs and helping his team win.
