Significant adjustments have been made regarding the arrangements for cricket teams participating in the upcoming Asian Games, granting them the freedom to select their own hotel accommodations. Naoki Alex Miyaji, CEO of the Japan Cricket Association, stated on बुधवार that while visiting teams are being offered hotel accommodations, they remain completely free to arrange their own lodging independently. This development follows concerns expressed by major cricketing nations regarding the housing facilities provided for the continental multi-sport event.
Logistics and Housing Concerns Raised
During a recent meeting held by the Asian Cricket Council, top-tier cricketing countries openly voiced their apprehensions concerning various logistical hurdles, prominently including the proposed accommodation. The designated housing is situated approximately 20 kilometers away from the Koroji Sports Park located in Nisshin city within the Aichi Prefecture. These logistical discussions ultimately led to the flexibility allowing teams to make independent accommodation arrangements if they prefer.
Organizing Committees and JCA Roles
Detailing the operational structure, Miyaji explained in an interview that the Asian Games are being organized by the Aichi-Nagoya Games Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Asia, with cooperation from the Asian Cricket Council. He clarified that while the Japan Cricket Association has provided assistance in certain areas, it is not directly involved in the core management, which limits his direct answers on every operational aspect. However, he emphasized that all involved stakeholders are working tirelessly to ensure the absolute success of cricket at the Games. Miyaji also reassured that the Asian Cricket Council has been in continuous dialogue with the Aichi-Nagoya Games Organizing Committee regarding housing options, and hotel accommodations are indeed being offered to all participating contingents.
Sri Lanka's Crucial Role in Pitch Preparation
Sri Lanka Cricket played a pivotal part in setting up the playing surfaces for the tournament. Recalling their contribution, Miyaji noted that Sri Lanka Cricket dispatched its own curators to oversee the construction of natural turf and the installation of hybrid pitches. He credited Sri Lanka Cricket for providing the top curators to build a full-sized venue equipped with turf and hybrid pitches. Acknowledging local limitations, Miyaji pointed out that because cricket is not among the top mainstream sports in Japan, resources have inherent constraints, yet from what he has observed, the resulting playing surfaces and fields will be among the finest ever featured in the Asian Games.
