The 21st match of Major League Cricket 2026 between Texas Super Kings and Seattle Orcas swung wildly right down to the final over, and it was Dasun Shanaka's bowling that decided it. Texas Super Kings needed only 15 runs off the last over to win, but Shanaka picked up 4 wickets in 4 balls to completely flip the contest, handing Seattle Orcas a thrilling 9-run victory. It was Seattle Orcas' fourth win of the tournament, and Shanaka was named Player of the Match for his match-winning spell.
Texas needed just 15 in the final over
Chasing 122 for victory, Texas Super Kings had already lost 5 wickets for 107 before the final over began, yet the game still looked firmly in their grasp with only 15 runs required. Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Ranjane were at the crease. Ferreira had struck a four and a six in the 19th over to bring the target within reach. Off the first ball of the last over, Ranjane hit bowler Dasun Shanaka for a four, leaving Texas needing just 10 runs off the final 4 balls. At that point it appeared Texas would cruise to victory.
Four wickets in four balls turn the match on its head
What followed over the next two deliveries changed everything. Ferreira misread a slow ball and was dismissed. Kelvin Savage, who came in immediately after, holed out to long-on. Adam Milne then went for a big shot on the hat-trick ball and was out. Off the final ball of the over, Shanaka had Amshi de Silva caught by Shimron Hetmyer to seal a stunning win for his side. In doing so, Shanaka completed a hat-trick, taking 4 wickets in 4 balls, and became only the second bowler after Sunil Narine to take a hat-trick in Major League Cricket.
Seattle's batters struggled, but the bowling made up for it
Seattle Orcas' batting effort in this match had been underwhelming. Batting first, the side used all 20 overs but could only post 121 for 9. Cameron Gannon was the team's top scorer, making 20 runs off 21 balls. Dasun Shanaka himself chipped in with 16 runs off 14 balls, while Ali Sheikh scored 18 off 15 balls. In reply, Texas Super Kings could only manage 112 for 9 in their 20 overs, falling 9 runs short of the 122-run target. Despite the modest batting total, Shanaka's bowling secured Seattle's fourth win of the tournament and earned him the Player of the Match award.
