Ahead of the upcoming tour of New Zealand, Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill took the field in the Ranji Trophy to get some valuable red-ball practice. Playing for Punjab against Chhattisgarh, the star batter failed to make an impact in the first innings as he was dismissed cheaply. Coming in to bat at the crucial number four position, he struggled to settle down on the pitch.
Bowler Breaches the Defense
Chhattisgarh spinner Ajay Mandal got the better of the visiting star, completely outclassing him with a sharp delivery. Gill looked entirely uncomfortable against the spinner and misjudged a turning ball that slipped right through the gap between his bat and pad, smashing straight into the middle stump. It was a forgettable outing for the seasoned batter in this round of the domestic tournament.
Short Stint at the Crease
The entire innings lasted just 5 deliveries for Shubman Gill before his departure back to the pavilion. He managed to score only 1 run during this brief stay at the crease. This underwhelming performance in the domestic circuit has sparked concerns among supporters as the team prepares for crucial international assignments.
