A notable change has taken place in the Indian Test setup ahead of the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka. Following Sai Sudharsan being ruled out due to an injury, Sarfaraz Khan has earned a call-up to the national squad. Expressing his joy immediately after the announcement, Sarfaraz took to social media to share his first reaction with his followers. He posted pictures wearing the official Team India training kit alongside his father and coach Naushad Khan. Given the massive role his father has played in shaping his cricket journey, sharing this milestone with him added immense emotional value to his comeback.
Viral Film Reference Ahead of the Call-Up
The pictures shared by Sarfaraz captured him looking focused in the team gear, with one particular frame featuring his father seated next to him. Days prior on August 7, Sarfaraz had shared an image related to the 2019 Telugu movie Jersey. Accompanying that post, he wrote that while he might not fit in everywhere easily, he would keep fighting with all his strength. That particular message has now gone viral across social media platforms following the news of his selection.
A Long Wait for Test Recall
Sarfaraz had remained on the sidelines of the Indian Test plans for quite a considerable period. He had appeared in his last Test match back in November 2024 against New Zealand. During that home series where India suffered a 0-3 defeat, Sarfaraz had scored a brilliant century in the second Test and stood out as one of the premier batters for the side. Despite those strong performances, he failed to cement a permanent spot in the playing XI. He was later named in the squad for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but did not get a single game in the five-match series where Australia defeated India 4-1.
Dominant First-Class Record and Fitness Focus
At 28 years of age, Sarfaraz has maintained an exceptional run in domestic red-ball cricket. Across 62 first-class matches, he has accumulated 5114 runs at a stellar average of 64.73, featuring 17 centuries and 16 half-centuries. In recent times, he has also dedicated rigorous effort toward improving his fitness and dropping weight through strict training regimens. Representing Mumbai in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, he scored 429 runs across nine innings. He will now look forward to making a strong impact against Sri Lanka.
