Sarfaraz Khan has once again reminded selectors of his prolific form with a stellar performance in domestic cricket. Playing in the Ranji Trophy Group D fixture against Himachal Pradesh, the batter notched up a magnificent 154-run knock. This powerful display has sparked fresh debates about whether the prolific run-scorer can continue to be overlooked by the national selection panel.
A Masterclass at Bilaspur Ground
During the third day of the match at the Lohnu Cricket Ground in Bilaspur, Sarfaraz showcased his exceptional batting prowess. He faced 228 deliveries to compile his 154 runs, striking 19 boundaries along the way. Batting at number five for the side led by Siddhesh Lad, he emerged as the highest run-scorer of the innings. His masterclass helped propel his team to a commanding lead of 388 runs.
Previous International Stints and Selection Snubs
Sarfaraz made his red-ball debut for India on 15 February 2024 against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, where he scored half-centuries in both innings. Later in August 2026, he was called up for the Test series against Sri Lanka after Sai Sudharsan was ruled out due to an injury, though he did not get a chance to feature in the playing eleven.
The Road Ahead for the National Team
Having missed out on a spot for the upcoming two-match Test series starting on 19 November, Sarfaraz continues to knock loudly on the selection door with mountain loads of domestic runs. Chief selector Pragyan Ojha and the national selection committee now face mounting questions regarding how long this consistent run-machine can be kept away from the squad.
