West Indies cricket team captain Shai Hope is currently enjoying a phenomenal run of form, making his ongoing tour of India feel nothing short of a dream. Over the span of the last 15 days, his bat has produced four remarkable centuries. The sheer volume of his success is highlighted by the fact that he has scored as many hundreds in this brief period as many batters manage across an entire calendar year. Building on this momentum, Hope is now on the verge of cementing his name among the legendary figures of T20 International cricket who hold the record for the most centuries in the format.
Dominance Across Both ODI and T20I Series Against India
Hope's brilliant streak began during the concluding matches of the ODI series against India. Although he was dismissed for just 12 runs in the opening fixture, he bounced back spectacularly by scoring 104 runs in the second match and following it up with an unbeaten 162 in the third. As the action shifted to the T20 format, his prolific run continued unabated. Out of the four T20 matches played so far, Hope has notched up two centuries. He played unbeaten knocks of 102 runs in both the Ranchi and Hyderabad T20 encounters, remaining not out on both occasions.
Three T20I Hundreds and Counting
Consequently, Hope has accumulated four centuries across his last six outings, with two of them coming in T20 Internationals alongside a prior T20 hundred. This brings his total tally in T20 Internationals to three centuries. Should he manage to score one more hundred, he will reach the milestone of four T20I centuries. Historically, only five batsmen in the world have managed to score four or more centuries in T20 International cricket.
Chasing an Elite Club of Century Makers
When looking at the record books for the most T20 International centuries, former India captain Rohit Sharma and Australia's Glenn Maxwell lead the charts with five hundreds each. Meanwhile, England's Phil Salt, Austria's Karanbir Singh, and India's Suryakumar Yadav have each notched up four centuries. Cricket fans now wait to see if Hope will secure his fourth century in the final match of the ongoing India vs West Indies series or if he will have to wait for future fixtures. If Hope manages another masterclass in the upcoming Bengaluru match, it could spell serious trouble for the Indian bowling attack.
