South Indian cinema superstar Rajinikanth is once again making waves on the big screen, as his highly anticipated movie Jailer 2 has taken the box office by storm right from its opening day. Tremendous enthusiasm among fans has translated into an extraordinary start for the film. Exhibiting robust performance not just in the domestic market but also overseas, the action drama has cemented its strong footing everywhere. According to industry tracking data from Sacnilk, the worldwide collection of the film has comfortably crossed the 125 crore rupee mark on its very first day, overpowering Vijay's The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) right out of the gate while setting its sights on bigger milestones.
Strong Domestic Numbers and Show Allocations
At the Indian box office, Jailer 2 pulled off a massive net collection of 59.70 करोड़ रुपये on its opening day. The movie achieved this feat across a staggering 16,599 shows nationwide, ensuring that fans across the country had ample opportunity to catch the superstar in action. The gross collection within India stood at an impressive 70.25 करोड़ रुपये. A breakdown by language reveals that the film drew its maximum strength and revenue from its original Tamil version, where fan frenzy reached a fever pitch.
Language-Wise Performance Breakdown
The Tamil version alone contributed a massive 43.35 करोड़ रुपये in net collections on day one, backed by 9,326 dedicated shows. Meanwhile, the Telugu version put up a strong show, raking in 12.50 करोड़ रुपये through 2,792 screenings. However, the Hindi version experienced a relatively subdued start, bringing in 3.50 करोड़ रुपये despite being allocated 4,371 shows. On the other end of the spectrum, the Kannada version struggled, managing a meager net collection of 35 लाख रुपये from just 110 shows.
Impressive Overseas Box Office Pull
Jailer 2 also found tremendous favor in international territories. Reports prior to release indicated that the film's overseas advance bookings had generated roughly 3.9 million dollars, translating to approximately 37 crore rupees in gross collections. By the end of the opening day, the international markets recorded a massive gross collection of 55 crore rupees, significantly boosting the film's global tally.
Factors Behind the Slow Hindi Belt Response
While South India witnessed massive celebrations and packed auditoriums for Jailer 2, the reception in the Hindi belt remained relatively quiet. Despite securing over 4,000 shows, the film registered an occupancy rate of only 18% in northern regions. Analysts attribute this lukewarm urban response partly to the lack of a widespread release across major national multiplex chains, which restricted the movie's reach among regular urban moviegoers.
Eyeing Massive Openings Benchmarks
In terms of worldwide opening day figures, Jailer 2 was pitted against some towering benchmarks. Vijay's The Greatest of All Time had registered a worldwide gross opening of 99.39 करोड़ रुपये, a number that Rajinikanth's latest outing has successfully surpassed. With this hurdle cleared, Jailer 2 has set its crosshairs on even bigger records, specifically Vijay's Leo, which grossed 142.03 करोड़ रुपये, and Rajinikanth's own previous outing Coolie, which opened at 151.14 करोड़ रुपये.
Looking Ahead at the Box Office Run
By delivering a powerhouse performance on day one, Jailer 2 has firmly established its dominance and star power at the box office. The real test now lies in whether the film can maintain this blistering momentum over the coming days and successfully outpace the massive lifetime opening figures of competitors like Leo and Coolie, cementing another stellar chapter in Rajinikanth's cinematic legacy.
