Young cricketing prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has carved his name into the record books by etching a historic half-century during the Duleep Trophy semi-final on Monday. Playing at the Centre of Excellence ground in Bengaluru, he accomplished this feat at the tender age of 15 years and 157 days, making him the youngest ever player to score a fifty in the prestigious tournament.
Shattering a Decades-Old Milestone
With this impressive knock, Vaibhav surpassed a longstanding record that stood for 57 years. The previous record belonged to Lakshman Singh, who had scored a half-century back in 1969 at the age of 16 years and 23 days. Opening the innings for East Zone against Central Zone, Vaibhav displayed remarkable composure and aggression. He reached his fifty in just 42 balls. Serving as the vice-captain of East Zone, he brought up his half-century in style by hitting off-spinner Saransh Jain for a massive six. Notably, fortune favored the young batter early in his innings when Yash राठौर dropped a straightforward catch off Saransh's bowling when Vaibhav was on just two runs.
Building Partnerships and Previous Form
This marks the second first-class half-century of Vaibhav Suryavanshi's career. His previous fifty came during the preceding Ranji Trophy season against Meghalaya, where he achieved the milestone in only 33 deliveries. In this crucial semi-final, the 15-year-old reached his 50-run mark in 42 balls and played a vital role in stitching together a century-plus opening partnership alongside Abhimanyu Easwaran. Although he had a quiet outing in the opening round match against North East Zone where he was dismissed for just eight runs in East Zone's sole innings, he bounced back strongly to deliver a stellar performance on the big stage.
