The national capital has once again been shaken by an abhorrent crime following the brutal gang-rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in the Swaroop Nagar area of Delhi. Authorities have acted swiftly to apprehend four suspects involved in the heinous incident, which includes one adult and three juveniles. The victim's body, bearing multiple stab wounds, was discovered in an open field near Kushak Road on September 13.
Investigation and Breakthrough
According to law enforcement officials, special teams were immediately formed to crack the high-profile case after the body was initially found unidentified. Investigators soon established that the teenager was a school dropout who had been looking for work to support her family financially. Further probing revealed that the victim was acquainted with one of the suspects, a 17-year-old boy, and had gone to meet him on the evening of September 10.
Sequence of the Brutal Crime
Police disclosed that during the meeting, the primary suspect subjected the girl to sexual assault. When the victim threatened to expose him, he summoned his friends to the location. All the suspects were under the influence of alcohol and proceeded to gang-rape her. They subsequently dragged her to a farm where, in the early hours of September 11, she was stabbed more than six times. In an attempt to conceal the crime, the perpetrators hid the body under leaves and mud before fleeing the scene in a tempo. Authorities have secured blood samples from the suspects for forensic analysis.
CCTV Footprint and Clues
To untangle the dark mystery, investigators meticulously scanned footage from over 50 closed-circuit television cameras in the vicinity. Although poor lighting and darkness initially obscured the registration number of a suspicious tempo seen moving through the area, police traced its transit route. Persistent tracking eventually led the teams to a tempo parked in Khadda Colony, providing the crucial breakthrough.
Arrests and Recoveries
Upon detaining the tempo driver, rigorous interrogation cracked the case wide open, leading to the apprehension of 19-year-old Shivam, also known as Sudama, alongside three other teenage accomplices aged between 16 and 17. Police successfully recovered two knives, blood-stained garments worn by the accused during the commission of the crime, and the tempo utilized in the getaway. Officials noted that the entire case was solved within a span of 72 hours.
Legal Action and Charges
Strict legal measures have been invoked in response to the gravity of the offense. A formal case has been registered under relevant sections pertaining to rape and murder, alongside Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Authorities are continuing to interrogate all four accused to ascertain their individual roles in the assault and to determine whether any additional parties were involved in the conspiracy.
