A harrowing incident unfolded in Maharashtra's Dharashiv district when an obsessed lover, accompanied by his associates, forcibly abducted a young woman from her residence. The perpetrators launched a violent assault on the woman's family members, mowed down pedestrians while fleeing in a speeding vehicle, and engaged in a tense standoff with police officers along a highway. Prompt and courageous intervention by law enforcement ultimately led to the successful rescue of the victim, though a police officer sustained severe injuries during the operation.
Violent Home Invasion and High-Speed Escape
The crime occurred in Borada village, located within the Kalamb taluka of Dharashiv district. The primary suspect, along with four of his accomplices, illegally breached the victim's home in an attempt to kidnap his alleged partner. As the woman's mother and sister attempted to intervene and protect her, the main perpetrator ruthlessly attacked both women with a sword. After inflicting injuries on the family members, the assailants dragged the young woman outside, forced her into an Ertiga car, and sped away from the location.
Desperate to avoid apprehension, the suspects operated the getaway vehicle at dangerously high speeds. During their reckless flight, the Ertiga struck multiple pedestrians along the road, resulting in severe injuries to at least two individuals. Upon receiving immediate alerts regarding the kidnapping and hit-and-run incidents, police units initiated a high-stakes vehicular pursuit. Following an extensive chase, law enforcement officers managed to intercept and encircle the getaway vehicle near Ambajogai.
High-Voltage Standoff on the Highway
Faced with a police cordon, the main culprit escalated the crisis inside the trapped vehicle. He placed a sharp sickle directly against the young woman's neck and openly threatened the surrounding officers. The armed suspect declared that he would execute the hostage and end his own life if any officer attempted to move closer or make an arrest. This standoff continued on the highway for nearly thirty minutes, creating intense panic and suspense among onlookers and responding officers.
Heroic Rescue Operation and Search for Accomplices
Assessing the critical danger to the victim, Police Officer Ganesh Waghmode seized a momentary distraction to launch a decisive physical strike against the suspect. The swift maneuver successfully disarmed the perpetrator, knocking the sickle away from the hostage's throat. During the ensuing scuffle, another law enforcement officer, Hanumant Gaikwad, suffered serious injuries when the suspect slashed at him with the blade. Following the completion of the rescue mission, authorities formally registered a criminal case based on the victim's official complaint. While the lead perpetrator remains in police custody, three other accomplices managed to evade arrest during the chaos.
