A scooter rider was killed in Goa's Sindolim area on Friday evening after a speeding Mercedes car rammed into the two-wheeler and dragged it for nearly 2 kilometres, before both vehicles caught fire.
How the crash unfolded
According to the police, the scooter rider was travelling at a normal speed when the Mercedes came from behind and hit the two-wheeler with full force. The impact was so severe that the rider got caught up with the car, and instead of stopping, the driver kept driving for close to 2 kilometres, dragging the rider along the road.
Fire breaks out, rider dies on the spot
The friction and heat generated during the dragging soon set both the car and the scooter ablaze. The flames engulfed the scooter rider, who died right at the accident site. The sheer scale of the accident left onlookers shaken, and there was brief chaos in the area.
Driver in custody, investigation underway
Police reached the spot after locals alerted them and brought the situation under control. The driver of the Mercedes has been taken into custody. Investigators are now trying to determine the car's speed at the time of the crash and where exactly the driver went wrong. Efforts are also on to establish the identity of the deceased scooter rider and gather other details linked to the accident.
