Zcash is under pressure again, and the warning signs are stacking up beneath the surface. The privacy coin slipped more than 2% on Friday, pressing against a rising support trendline that has held it up for weeks. If that line breaks decisively, the technical map points to a fall of more than 15%, with the next serious floor sitting near $378.
Why the network's own health is flashing red
The most telling signal is not the price itself but what is happening inside Zcash's shielded pools. The shielded supply measures how many ZEC tokens are locked inside the network's cryptographic, privacy-protecting pools. As a rule of thumb, a rising shielded supply signals growing adoption of the privacy features, while a shrinking one points the other way. Right now it is shrinking. On-chain data puts the total shielded supply at 3.79 million ZEC, a 10-month low, a clear sign that appetite for the token's core privacy use case is fading rather than building.
Speculators are stepping back too
The cooling is not limited to long-term holders. Speculative demand in the derivatives market is easing as well. Futures Open Interest on ZEC has fallen more than 3% over the past 24 hours to $793.41 million, according to CoinGlass. A decline like that usually reflects either a minor washout of leveraged positions or simply a shrinking notional value as the price itself drops. The funding rate tells a similar story, slipping to 0.0071% from 0.0091% a day earlier, meaning traders are less willing to pay up to hold long positions. Put together, both retail enthusiasm and network usage are pulling in the same direction, and it is not a bullish one.
The levels that matter on the chart
Technically, Zcash is wearing a bearish jacket in the near term. It is changing hands below its 50-day Exponential Moving Average, which sits around $485, and it is now leaning on a rising support trendline near $458. That trendline is the line in the sand. A sustained close beneath it would open the door to the 200-day EMA at $404. Below that, the next magnet is the 50% retracement of the entire rally from $207 to $690, which lands at $378. A slide from the current support zone down to that level is what pushes the potential drawdown above 15%.
Momentum offers no rescue
The oscillators are not coming to the bulls' aid. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence indicator has slipped into negative territory after a bearish crossover with its signal line, a sign that selling pressure has returned to the driver's seat. The Relative Strength Index, meanwhile, is hovering around 42, comfortably below the neutral 50 mark. Together they paint a picture of weak momentum and thin buying conviction, the kind of backdrop in which support levels tend to give way rather than hold.
Where a rebound would have to start
If buyers do try to mount a defense, they face immediate hurdles. The first ceiling is the 50-day EMA at $485, and above it lies a descending trendline near $561. Until Zcash can reclaim those markers, rallies are likely to be sold into rather than sustained.
The wider crypto market is treading water
Zcash is not weakening in a vacuum. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple are all trading near key technical levels as the broader market pauses following last week's recovery. On live data, Bitcoin is currently changing hands around $63,702, down about 1.58% from its previous close of $64,725, hovering just under its short-term moving averages with its RSI near 48 and MACD in bearish territory. Ethereum, for its part, continues to consolidate in a tight range between two major EMAs, waiting for a decisive push in either direction.
Altcoins find a few bright spots
There were pockets of strength earlier in the week. Uniswap, Cardano and Near Protocol all posted gains on Thursday as the market caught a brief bid. Uniswap stood out with a rally of more than 10%, climbing to a six-month high after rolling out Launches, a new feature in its Web App that pulls together tokens from across various launchpads and routes their trading through the decentralized exchange's own infrastructure.
Aave trims the dead weight
Elsewhere in decentralized finance, Aave is preparing to sunset 75 low-activity reserves spread across its protocol. The cleanup is part of a wider push to cut down on the operational, technical and economic risks that pile up across its many deployments when little-used markets are left running.
Strategy takes a heavy hit on Bitcoin
The quarter's biggest bruise belonged to Strategy. The company reported an operating loss of $8.33 billion for the second quarter of 2026 in its Thursday earnings release. The damage was driven almost entirely by an $8.32 billion unrealized loss on its Bitcoin stack as the top cryptocurrency's price fell during the period. All told, the firm posted a net loss of $8.22 billion for the quarter, which works out to $24.45 per diluted share.
