The Delhi government cabinet has officially sanctioned the 'Delhi Laxmi Yojana' to provide direct financial assistance to women across the national capital. Chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the cabinet meeting approved the social welfare initiative, which guarantees a monthly financial aid of Rs 2,500 to eligible female residents. Alongside this welfare decision, the government also resolved to increase financial grants for organizers of Kanwar Yatra camps in 2026 to ensure smooth management during the annual pilgrimage.
Delhi Laxmi Yojana: Application Timeline and Eligibility
Under the approved plan, the state administration will roll out a dedicated online portal on August 1 to accept applications for the scheme. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that following the processing and verification of submitted forms, the government aims to release the first installment of the stipend to beneficiaries by Raksha Bandhan.
To qualify for the Rs 2,500 monthly stipend, applicants must fulfill specific legal and residency requirements. The proposed regulations mandate that women submitting applications must present a self-declaration certificate confirming continuous residence in Delhi for a minimum of 10 years. Additionally, applicants must declare in their documentation that they have no past criminal record.
Increased Financial Support and Free Power for Kanwar Camps
In the same cabinet meeting, the Delhi government approved a significant boost in financial grants for committees managing Kanwar Yatra camps for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra-2026. The decision comes in response to rising operational costs, growing numbers of pilgrims, and general inflation. Despite the increase in cash assistance, the government affirmed that Kanwar committees will continue to receive up to 1,200 units of free electricity, maintaining the existing support framework.
Grant Revisions Across Camp Categories and Civic Services
The updated financial framework establishes revised funding slabs based on camp size and operational duration. Large-scale Kanwar camps spanning an area exceeding 20,000 square feet and operating between 6 to 12 days will now be eligible for maximum financial aid of up to Rs 15 lakh. Grant amounts have also been upwardly revised across all other camp categories to help committee members manage logistics effectively.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that the administration's primary objective is to extend comprehensive support to organizers, enabling them to establish safer, well-regulated, and comfortably equipped facilities for visiting devotees. To maintain seamless execution, the Delhi government confirmed that essential services will remain fully integrated. This includes dedicated single-window clearances, inter-departmental coordination, continuous drinking water supply, mobile toilets, routine sanitation, emergency health services, uninterrupted power supply, strict security arrangements, and streamlined traffic management throughout the pilgrimage period.
