In a major disturbance on board a long-distance train, television, film, and OTT actress Antara Banerjee was detained by railway police following an hour-long chaotic conflict. The 31-year-old actress was traveling on August 12 toward Surat to attend a shooting schedule. Problems arose when she boarded a reserved AC compartment of the Aravalli Express while possessing only a sleeper class ticket, triggering an intense disagreement with a fellow passenger that rapidly spiraled into violence.
Dispute Over Reserved AC Coach Seat
The disruption took place between Borivali and Dahanu railway stations between 9:30 PM and 10:50 PM. Trouble began when the passenger holding the official reservation for the seat arrived and asked Antara Banerjee to vacate the berth. As she refused to move, the passenger summoned Ticket Collector Harikesh Tripathi to intervene. Recognizing the escalating tension, the ticket collector alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) team deployed on the train for immediate assistance.
Assault on RPF Officers and Chaos Onboard
In response to the alert, RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Yaminikant Mishra and Constable Rajesh Kumar reached the AC coach to mediate the dispute. However, the actress reportedly became hostile and unleashed verbal abuse at the responding officers. As the situation spiraled out of control, she turned aggressive, stripped off her clothes, and brandished a razor blade, which she used to attack an officer. During the chaotic scuffle that ensued, the actress also sustained minor injuries.
Damage to Train Property and Deboarding at Dahanu
As the commotion continued, Antara Banerjee allegedly attempted to break the window glass of the AC coach in a frantic effort to flee. The confrontation caused damage to police uniforms and destroyed mobile phones belonging to the security personnel. After nearly an hour of intense drama, RPF personnel managed to restrain her. Upon reaching Dahanu railway station, she was taken off the train and transferred into the custody of the Government Railway Police (GRP). The following morning, the Borivali railway police formally took over her custody.
Refusal of Legal Counsel and Release on Bail
During police processing, officers offered the 31-year-old actress the opportunity to contact her family or seek legal representation. However, she firmly declined both options and insisted that police arrest her immediately. Borivali railway police registered an official case detailing the incident. Following standard procedural steps, authorities issued a formal notice to Antara Banerjee and subsequently released her on bail while further investigation continues.
