A blind singer from Madhya Pradesh's Bundelkhand region, who once sang for passengers inside moving trains to earn a living, has suddenly found himself at the centre of Bollywood's attention after a devotional song from the film Hanuman Ansh turned into a viral sensation.
A Song That Turned Into a Career-Changing Moment
Directed by Dr. Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh, a film based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba, has been drawing steady praise since its release, both for its story and its music. Among the many voices featured in the film, singer Sunil Lodhi has emerged as one of the most talked about names. His song More Sankat Ke Katiya Hanuman Ji struck a chord with audiences and spread rapidly, turning him into a household name almost overnight.
From a One-Acre Farm to National Recognition
Sunil Lodhi hails from Agra village in the Jaisinagar block of Sagar district. Born visually impaired, he comes from a modest family; his father owns just one acre of land, and Sunil is one of four siblings. Despite these circumstances, he built a reputation for his voice long before Hanuman Ansh, once singing inside trains to reach an audience wherever he could find one. His talent and the depth of his voice have left listeners moved since the song's success, with many drawn as much to his story as to his singing.
Offers, Live Shows and a Growing Demand
According to some media reports, Sunil Lodhi is now receiving offers to sing for Bollywood songs as well. His popularity as a live performer has also grown sharply since Hanuman Ansh became a hit, and he has already been booked for a show during Ganesh Utsav. Reports also indicate that he has finalised a deal to sing four Bundeli songs, adding to a steadily filling schedule of performances and invitations from across the industry.
Hopes of Singing Alongside His Favourite Artists
While Sunil Lodhi wants to carve out his own space in Bollywood through his own hard work and voice, he has also spoken about his wish to collaborate with singers Arijit Singh and Jubin Nautiyal, both of whom he counts among his favourite artists.
