Known for his commanding screen presence and versatile acting in both Bollywood and Bengali cinema, Rajesh Sharma has recently been in the spotlight due to health concerns. After suffering a bite from a venomous insect on the sets of his film 'Fauji' in Hyderabad, he was hospitalized, prompting his fans to take a keen interest in the lesser-known aspects of his life and career. While he often portrays formidable characters on screen, his real-life journey is quite compelling and marked by significant challenges.
From Taxi Driving to the Big Screen
The path that led Rajesh Sharma to his current standing was far from smooth. In a past interview, he revealed the strenuous efforts he made before establishing himself in the world of cinema. He used to drive a taxi on the streets of Kolkata and even worked as a ferry operator. His daily routine was demanding, involving various odd jobs to make ends meet, yet he remained committed to his passion for acting, spending his evenings rehearsing with theater groups.
Entry into the National School of Drama
After nearly a decade of persistent struggle, a major turning point occurred when he was 17 years old. He secured admission into the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD). Refining his skills at such a renowned institution allowed him to enter the professional world of theater and cinema with confidence. In 1996, he received his big break in Bollywood through the legendary filmmaker Gulzar's acclaimed film 'Maachis'. Although he took a short break from Hindi cinema afterward, he remained highly active in Bengali films and television throughout his career.
Two Marriages and Personal Life
Rajesh Sharma is known for keeping his personal life away from the glare of cameras. Public records suggest that he has been married twice. His first marriage was to the well-known Bengali actress Sudipta Chakraborty. The two grew close during their shared days in the theater circuit. Unfortunately, the romance did not translate into a long-term marriage, and the couple parted ways legally in 2009, four years after they tied the knot.
Following his first marriage, Rajesh Sharma moved forward and married Sangeeta Sharma in 2011. Sangeeta prefers to stay away from the glitz and glamour of the film industry, leading a private life away from the spotlight. Rajesh Sharma has no children from either of his marriages. The actor has never publicly disclosed the reasons behind not having children. Presently, he enjoys a quiet and contented life with his wife Sangeeta, and reports indicate that he is currently recovering well from his health issues.
