A shocking incident in Motihari district, Bihar, has laid bare a grim breach of parental duty as a couple traded their newborn infant for cash. Blinded by greed, the parents parted with their own flesh and blood, but prompt intervention by local law enforcement exposed the illicit transaction. Authorities stepped in decisively, rescued the infant unharmed, and apprehended five individuals connected to the crime, including the parents. Preparations are now underway to place all the accused behind bars as the legal process moves forward.
Five Arrested in Child Trafficking Case
The Motihari Town police station unraveled this grave child-selling racket and took five suspects into custody. Those arrested include the newborn's biological parents, a woman who purchased the infant, an alleged middleman, and an ASHA worker. During the operation, law enforcement officers successfully recovered the baby and seized one hundred fifty thousand rupees that had exchanged hands during the deal. Investigators are currently questioning all the suspects to uncover any broader network operating in the region.
According to police records, the arrested parents are Pramod Sahani and his wife Hindu Devi, residents of Cobra Pakariya Tola within the Harsidhi police station jurisdiction. Additionally, Tanya Khatoon alias Quresha Khatoon from Balua Gopalpur has been implicated as the alleged broker. Shobha Singh, an ASHA worker from the Ghorasahan police station area, along with Chinta Devi from Line Baswariya who allegedly bought the child, were also taken into custody.
Financial Dispute Brought Crime to Light
SDPO Dilip Kumar briefed reporters that the case originated in the Motihari Town police station area, where a couple handed over their newborn to brokers driven by financial greed. A subsequent monetary dispute among the parties leaked information to the local police, prompting Station House Officer Rajeev Ranjan to launch an immediate raid. The newborn was safely rescued, and five people, including the parents, a broker, and the health worker, were rounded up.
The Baby Was Born on August 8
Official findings indicate that the infant was born on August 8. The mother, who was meant to provide care and protection, instead handed over the newborn for a sum of money. Thanks to police intervention, the child is now safe and will remain under family supervision, while the biological parents face criminal charges and imprisonment.
