A government schoolteacher died after falling from the fourth floor of a house in Sector 9, Faridabad, Haryana, and her family is calling it murder rather than an accident. The woman has been identified as 37 year old Ritu, a native of Bihar who worked as a teacher with the state's education department.
Had Arrived At In-Laws' Home Days Earlier
Ritu had reached her in-laws' house in Sector 9 just four days before the fall. Police reached the spot after the incident and sent the body for a postmortem examination. Once the postmortem was completed, the body was handed over to her family, and police opened an investigation into the circumstances of her death.
Mother Alleges Forced Resignation And Harassment
Ritu's mother, Chandni Devi, said her daughter had been forced to give up her government job around three months ago. She claims the pressure came from Ritu's husband, Pankaj Sharma, who holds the rank of Lieutenant in the Indian Army and is currently posted in Ladakh. Chandni Devi further alleged that Ritu was subjected to constant mental harassment at her in-laws' house, with her elder sister-in-law accused of playing the biggest role in it.
Dispute With Sister-In-Law, A Phone Call Before The Fall
According to Ritu's uncle, Sanjay Sharma, she had an argument with her sister-in-law shortly before the fall on July 17. He says Ritu had spoken to the family over the phone about this dispute before the incident. He also alleged that news of her death was kept from her maternal family for two days, claiming the delay was deliberate.
Family Says CCTV Footage Shows Her Being Pushed
Ritu's maternal family insists she was pushed off the roof rather than falling on her own, calling it a planned killing. They say a CCTV video linked to the case has already been handed over to police, and that the footage shows Ritu falling from the upper floor. The family has demanded an impartial investigation and strict legal action against those responsible.
Police Say Evidence Is Being Examined
Police spokesperson Yashpal Singh said the family's complaint has been received and acted upon. He said the postmortem report, CCTV footage from the spot and other evidence collected in the case are being closely examined. Singh added that further legal action would be taken strictly in line with whatever new facts emerge from the investigation, which remains ongoing as police work through every angle before reaching a conclusion.
