Serving a 20-year sentence of rigorous imprisonment following his conviction for the sexual exploitation of female disciples alongside other grave offenses, the Dera head was granted a fresh 21-day furlough by prison authorities. Immediately after his release, he departed in a convoy of vehicles heading toward his ashram located in Sirsa. This latest release has swiftly reignited intense legal and political friction across Haryana, raising uncomfortable questions about whether the Indian constitution and judicial system maintain one set of standards for ordinary citizens and quite another for influential figures.
Objections Raised Over Repeated Relief for Convicted Criminals
Responding to the development with deep distress and an aggressive tone, Anshul Chhatrapati, the son of slain martyr journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, strongly condemned the systemic double standards on display. Raising grave questions about the integrity of the process, Anshul Chhatrapati asserted that offering repeated temporary releases to a person already convicted of grave crimes and who continues to face trial in several sensitive murder cases is nothing short of a huge farce. He emphasized that granting frequent furloughs and paroles to habitual offenders severely undermines the credibility of the entire judicial mechanism and reduces law enforcement protocols to a mockery.
Political Expediency and State Patronage Ahead of Elections
Directly targeting the motives of ruling authorities, Anshul Chhatrapati characterized these recurring concessions as a political crutch used by those in power. He alleged that regardless of which political party holds power in the state, governments across different eras have consistently showered favors on this convicted criminal to manage electoral gains and align vote bank mathematics. Whenever elections draw near or immediate political necessities arise, the prison gates are suddenly unlocked for him. Such actions, he indicated, demonstrate how political entities prioritize electoral calculations over upholding the rule of law.
Misleading Narratives and the Need for Judicial Intervention
Criticizing the silence of the system and judicial oversight, Anshul Chhatrapati stated that the public should stop directing questions at victim families and instead demand accountability directly from the state Chief Minister and the administrative machinery. He pointed out that the government apparatus routinely spreads confusion and false narratives to justify such releases, an approach that continuously erodes the dignity and standing of the judiciary. Calling for decisive action, he urged the High Courts and the Supreme Court to take strict cognizance of these administrative loopholes and systemic compromises to ensure that public faith in the rule of law remains intact.
