The quiet Sunday evening in Munimpur village, located in the Jhajjar district of Haryana, was shattered by an unimaginable tragedy. What began as a compassionate effort to save a helpless animal quickly escalated into a fatal disaster, leaving the entire community in a state of profound grief. Four men lost their lives due to suffocation after they descended into an abandoned village well to rescue a stranded calf, only to be overcome by an invisible accumulation of poisonous gas. The sudden loss has left the victims' families devastated and the entire district in shock.
A Fatal Chain of Events
The sequence of events unfolded rapidly when villagers noticed that a calf had accidentally tumbled into the depths of a disused well. Determined to pull the young animal to safety, four individuals stepped forward to help. The deceased have been identified as 41-year-old Dalbir, 41-year-old Narendra, 37-year-old Monu, and a migrant laborer named Rame. According to the sequence of the incident, the men went down into the well one by one. However, the deep enclosure was filled with a high concentration of toxic gas. As each man descended, the lack of oxygen and the poisonous fumes caused them to lose consciousness almost immediately, trapping them at the bottom without any route for escape.
Intense Rescue Operations
As the panic spread and it became clear that the rescuers were trapped inside, local authorities were urgently notified. Teams from the police department, fire brigade, and local administration quickly converged on the incident site. Launching an intense rescue operation, emergency workers battled the dangerous conditions for approximately three hours to reach the unconscious men. Once they were successfully pulled out from the toxic environment, the four victims were immediately rushed via ambulances to the civil hospital.
