Rajasthan has taken a significant step for people injured in road crashes and other serious accidents. To make sure an injured patient no longer has to struggle for care and instead gets better treatment in time, the state government has prepared a fresh trauma policy that will cover the entire state. The goal is to build a uniform and well-organised system of trauma care in every part of Rajasthan. According to Dr. Vikas Rajpurohit, superintendent of Mathuradas Mathur Hospital in Jodhpur, the move will prove crucial in delivering better treatment and life-saving facilities to trauma patients.
Trauma now a leading cause of death and disability
Dr. Vikas Rajpurohit said trauma has emerged as a major cause of death and serious disability in today's times. That is precisely why both the central and state governments are treating the issue seriously and working on it continuously. He pointed out that there was a time when there was no separate arrangement for trauma patients, but step by step, systems such as trauma care and trauma control were put in place. As a result, such patients are now getting far better treatment than before.
The same standard of care at every trauma centre
Under the new policy, uniform treatment standards will be applied at all trauma centres across the state, so that the quality of care does not vary from place to place. This comprehensive policy was not framed casually. A committee of administrative officers and medical experts was constituted, and it prepared the policy after studying the matter in depth at various levels. Dr. Rajpurohit said that once it is implemented, patients in both villages and cities will receive treatment of the same quality, while coordination between different hospitals will also improve.
Ambulance services to be strengthened
The policy pays the closest attention to the critical window between the accident site and reaching the hospital. The facilities a patient receives during this period will be made more robust. Plans have been drawn up to strengthen ambulance services, equip trauma centres with the necessary equipment and trained staff, and complete the trauma centres that are still unfinished. Beyond this, a special focus will be on preventing road accidents and ensuring quick treatment for the injured through coordination among various departments.
