DC Studios has locked in the female lead for its upcoming Jimmy Olsen spin-off series, casting Mary Holland in a central role opposite Skyler Gisondo's Jimmy Olsen. The project, a true-crime mockumentary created by American Vandal duo Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, follows Olsen and his colleagues at the Daily Planet as they cover a real crime story from the inside.
Mary Holland Cast As Sandra
Holland, recognisable from her roles in Happiest Season, Little House On The Prairie and the American adaptation of Ghosts, has been brought on board to play a character called Sandra. The series is being billed as a true-crime docuseries hosted by Gisondo's Jimmy Olsen, with the Daily Planet newsroom providing the backdrop and supporting cast for the story.
The Mystery Around Sandra's Identity
So far, Sandra's full name, her occupation and her role in the unfolding crime story have not been disclosed, leaving fans to speculate about who she might turn out to be. One theory doing the rounds among comic book readers points to Lois Lane's sister, Lucy Lane, a character who first appeared in a Jimmy Olsen comic decades ago. In the comics, Lucy Lane adopts the identity of a red-haired actress named Sandra Rogers and ends up marrying Jimmy Olsen not once but twice across various storylines. Fuelling the theory further, Holland has a noticeable resemblance to Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane in the current DC Universe films. Even so, nothing beyond the single name Sandra has been confirmed at this point, and the connection to Lucy Lane remains pure speculation for now.
Sharing The Screen With Gorilla Grodd
With her casting, Holland joins Jimmy Tatro, who is already attached to play the cunning and villainous Gorilla Grodd, a talking ape supervillain, in the same series. The show is believed to be titled DC Crime, though an official start date for filming has not been revealed yet. The cast, however, is clearly coming together piece by piece.
Part Of A Packed Schedule At DC Studios
The casting news lands at a busy time for DC Studios. James Watkins' Clayface and HBO Max's Lanterns are both just weeks away from their releases. Meanwhile, James Gunn's Superman sequel, titled Man Of Tomorrow, is currently in production, and Matt Reeves' long-delayed The Batman Part II has also finally entered production. With the Superman sequel expected next year and the Jimmy Olsen series steadily building its cast, more details about the Daily Planet-set spin-off are likely to emerge in the coming months.
