Reviewing the upcoming Violent Night 2, Tommy Wirkola's ultraviolent 2022 Christmas actioner Violent Night featured David Harbour as a reluctant Santa Claus slaughtering mercenaries to rescue a family in distress. Four years later, and following his work in Stranger Things, Harbour finds himself on the naughty list in Violent Night 2. Depowered and searching for the true meaning of Christmas, he must protect a mall held hostage by a ruthless gangster played by Jared Harris. The newly dropped trailer reveals that this time, Mrs. Claus, played by Kristen Bell, is joining in on the ferocious festivities.
High-Octane Action and Mall Chaos
The sequel appears determined to crank up the energy from the first outing, featuring Santa weaponizing cookie cutters and Mrs. Claus wielding a full-on katana and a hammer. Set to the tune of Last Christmas, the footage showcases chaotic elements like floor pianos reminiscent of the movie Big, flame-tipped arrows, and shopping centre settings ringing with holiday bells. Kristen Bell channels a distinctly lethal energy that brings a fresh dynamic to the holiday action genre.
Official Synopsis and Star-Studded Cast
The official synopsis for Violent Night 2 states that Saint Nick suits up again to take on a ruthless gangster terrorising the merchants of the Silver Bell Mall. Sapped of his magic, Santa needs another way to take on the goons while time runs out, forcing him to call in last-minute reinforcements from Mrs. Claus. Alongside Harbour and Bell, the film co-stars Joe Pantoliano, Daniela Melchior, Maxwell Friedman, and Andrew Bachelor.
Release Date and Expectations
With stunt coordination handled by the 87Eleven team and Wirkola leaning fully into the premise, the sequel has quickly become one of the most anticipated releases for the holiday season. Audiences will find out if the movie lives up to expectations when it hits cinemas on 4 December.
