Preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities have gathered full momentum across Palamu district, with local neighborhood committees crafting elaborate and thematic pandals to welcome devotees. In one of the most prominent efforts in the region, the Jai Maa Jagdamba Club, situated near GLA College, is constructing an architectural replica of the celebrated ISKCON temple located in Mayapur, West Bengal. This spiritual replica aims to serve as a prime festive attraction, offering local visitors an immersive experience of the grand temple right in their hometown.
A Festive Tradition Maintained Since 2008
The Jai Maa Jagdamba Club has been organizing the annual Durga Puja near GLA College continuously since 2008. Shailendra Kumar explained that the organizing committee consistently seeks to present unique architectural concepts each autumn alongside traditional rituals. The decision to model this year's structure on the Mayapur ISKCON temple arose after a visit to Mayapur, where the sheer grandeur of the temple inspired the organizers to bring that same aesthetic to Palamu. The goal is to allow local residents who have not traveled to Mayapur to witness its design up close.
Dimensions, Landscape Water Feature, and a Rs 17 Lakh Budget
The pandal currently under construction features expansive dimensions, measuring approximately 80 feet in length and 120 feet in width. Organizers estimate that the entire project, encompassing structural fabrication, lighting, and peripheral amenities, will require an investment of roughly Rs 17 lakh. Beyond the main structure, the committee is installing specialized design elements across the premises, including a custom artificial waterfall designed to provide worshippers with a picturesque and serene atmosphere as they enter the grounds.
Family Attractions, Rides for Children, and Musical Jagran
Recognizing that festive celebrations draw entire households, the organizers are outfitting the grounds with dedicated entertainment facilities, including joyrides and swings for children. The intention is to create an accommodating environment where families can worship, relax, and spend meaningful time together. A packed itinerary of spiritual and cultural functions has been scheduled throughout Navratri. On the auspicious night of Ashtami, a devotional musical evening (bhakti jagran) will be staged, featuring performer Vinay Tiwari, widely known as Chhote Pawan Singh. The devotional program is slated to run until roughly 8:00 PM.
Artisans from Bengal Crafting a 15-Foot Idol
Complementing the grand pandal, the sacred idol of Goddess Durga is being sculpted with immense attention to detail by skilled traditional artisans brought directly from West Bengal. The master craftsmen are shaping an impressive 15-foot-tall idol of the deity. According to the committee, the synergy between the massive structure, the Bengal-crafted sculpture, and festive lighting will deliver an elevated celebratory atmosphere. The execution of the festival is being overseen by organizer Shailesh Kumar Pandey, patron and co-founder Gaurav Kumar Singh, president Manoranjan Shukla, the secretary, and vice president Chandan Pandey, along with active committee volunteers working on site.
