Weather patterns across Jharkhand are set for a major shift starting Saturday, with rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds predicted over several parts of the state. The Meteorological Centre in Ranchi has issued a yellow alert spanning all 24 districts, advising residents to stay cautious and take shelter in safe locations during severe weather events.
Districts Expecting Heavy Rain on Saturday
The eastern regions of the state are likely to experience the strongest weather activity on Saturday. Heavy rainfall is expected in the north-eastern districts of Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara, and Giridih. Similarly, heavy downpours are anticipated in the south-eastern districts, including West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, and Dhanbad. Wind speeds in these areas could reach between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour during storm spells.
Day-by-Day Forecast for the Next Three Days
Meteorologists have outlined a day-by-day progression for the rainfall activity across the region. On Sunday, 30 August, rainfall coverage will expand to 17 districts in eastern Jharkhand, including the eight districts highlighted on Saturday. By Monday, 31 August, monsoon activity will concentrate over central Jharkhand, bringing heavy rain to 12 districts, notably Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, and Koderma. On Tuesday, 1 September, the heavy rain zone will move toward north-western districts such as Garhwa, Palamu, and Chatra, while capital Ranchi, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Khunti are also expected to see torrential spells.
Temperature Drop and Past 24-Hour Statistics
According to Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director and meteorologist at IMD Ranchi, cloud cover will persist across the state for the coming days. The combination of persistent overcast conditions and continuous rainfall is expected to lower maximum temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days, offering relief from recent heat. In the preceding 24 hours, Jhumariya in East Singhbhum recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 74.2 millimeters. Bahragora, also in East Singhbhum, was the hottest location with a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius. Elsewhere, Chaibasa recorded 35.4 degrees, Pakur and Seraikela logged 34.9 degrees, and Ranchi registered a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius.
Four-Day Advisory for Lightning and Storm Safety
The weather department stressed that the threat of lightning strikes and high-speed winds will remain active over the next four days. Citizens have been urged to avoid standing under tall trees, near electric poles, or in open fields during thunderstorms to prevent accidents.
