During the sacred month of Sawan, inspiring stories of devotion to Lord Shiva continue to emerge across the country. In one such remarkable journey, a group of 14 devotees from the Tilhar area of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh has set out on a 1300 kilometer bicycle pilgrimage. Carrying 31 liters of holy Ganga water from Haridwar in Uttarakhand, the group is traveling toward the famous Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, Jharkhand. Dressed in saffron attire, the pilgrims have decorated their bicycles with saffron flags, Kanwars, and other religious items, chanting slogans in praise of Lord Shiva as they advance along their route.
Faith and Determination Power the Exhausting Journey
The bicycle pilgrimage group includes Mahant Sunil Choti Wala, Up-Mahant Brajesh Bhole, and Treasurer Raja Bhole, alongside other dedicated devotees. Sharing their experience, the pilgrims explained that their deep faith and belief in Lord Shiva provide them with the strength and motivation needed to cover such a long distance on bicycles. Fetching Ganga water from Haridwar to perform ritual water offering at the Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga in Deoghar is not merely a journey for them, but a sacred commitment connected to years of religious devotion. They noted that the hospitality, support, and spirit of service shown by people along the way boost their morale, allowing them to push through physical fatigue and long distances while chanting Lord Shiva's name.
Grand Reception and Rituals at Baba Niwas Shiv Vatika in Jhumri Telaiya
As part of their ongoing ride, the group of 14 cyclists arrived at Baba Niwas Shiv Vatika, located along the Jhumri Telaiya bypass road in the Koderma district of Jharkhand. Upon their arrival, volunteers at Shiv Vatika welcomed the devotees warmly. Before departing for Deoghar, the pilgrims performed a formal Aarti ritual for their bicycles and Kanwars, followed by the distribution of Prasad. After enjoying a breakfast of tea and bread provided by the hosts, the devotees resumed their journey toward Baba Baidyanath Dham.
Fourteen Years of Uninterrupted Free Service for Pilgrims
Sujeet Lohani, the operator of Baba Niwas Shiv Vatika, shared that he sees the divine presence of Lord Shiva in every visiting Kanwariya. Driven by this reverence, he and his team have been serving pilgrims passing through this route continuously for the past 14 years. Shiv Vatika provides free tea, drinking water, meals, overnight stay facilities, and essential medicines to traveling devotees. Lohani emphasized that the goal of the initiative is to offer pilgrims on long journeys a comfortable space to rest, refresh, and receive care before resuming their arduous trek.
