A tragic incident unfolded inside a dining establishment in Bengaluru when an on-duty staff member collapsed and passed away while having his meal. The incident took place at Guru Greens Family Restaurant located in the Gottigere locality, falling under the jurisdiction of the Hulimavu police station. The deceased employee, identified as 42-year-old Chandru, was a native of Channarayapatna who had been serving as a bar cashier at the outlet for several years.
Sudden Discomfort During Meal Hours
The incident occurred on the morning of October 30 at approximately 11:40 am. Chandru had seated himself at a dining table and chair inside the establishment to eat his food. In the middle of the meal, he experienced acute, sudden chest pain. The distress was immediate and severe, causing him to writhe in agony before he lost balance, slipped from his seat, and collapsed directly forward onto the dining table.
Colleagues Rushed to Administer CPR
Witnessing him collapse without warning, other restaurant workers rushed across the dining hall to attend to him. The staff attempted to revive their unresponsive colleague and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, commonly known as CPR, directly at the scene. Despite repeated efforts to stimulate consciousness, Chandru remained completely unresponsive to their immediate interventions.
Hospital Transfer and Legal Formalities
Recognizing the critical nature of the emergency, the employees quickly transported Chandru to a nearby private healthcare facility. Medical personnel initiated treatment procedures right away, but their interventions proved unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead. The local authorities at the Hulimavu police station have registered a formal case regarding the incident, and Chandru's family members were notified about the tragedy.
Previous Similar Occurrences in the State
Karnataka has witnessed comparable sudden collapse incidents captured on camera in the recent past. In an earlier episode in Mandya district, a 58-year-old man named Erannaiah died under similar sudden circumstances inside a commercial garment shop. Erannaiah had walked into the store to purchase clothing when he suffered a fatal heart attack while standing, an event that was also captured on internal surveillance cameras.
