Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief YS Sharmila has officially announced the relocation of her daughter Anjali Reddy's upcoming wedding ceremony following a sharp family disagreement. The shift became necessary after her brother, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, declined to permit the use of the family's Yelahanka Palace in Bengaluru. Sharmila emphasized that ensuring a peaceful, controversy-free environment for the celebration remains her utmost duty as a mother.
Anjali Reddy is engaged to Somala Raghuram Reddy, and the couple was originally slated to tie the knot at the expansive Bengaluru estate. However, the YSR Congress Party leader cited security constraints as the rationale for withholding access to the venue for his niece's nuptials, forcing the bridal party to completely rework their logistical arrangements.
Prioritizing a Peaceful Nuptial Ceremony
Announcing the update publicly via a post on social platform X, Sharmila addressed the ongoing venue dispute directly. She made it clear that preserving harmony during such a personal milestone outweighed all other considerations, prompting the immediate search for an alternative destination away from Yelahanka Palace.
“Given the developments regarding the wedding venue, it is our responsibility to conduct the marriage without disputes and discord.”
Sharmila maintained that, according to the division of family inheritances, she holds complete legal ownership over Yelahanka Palace. Nevertheless, the prolonged property disagreements and political estrangement between the siblings have spilled over into major private milestones, publicly highlighting the widening fissure within the prominent political dynasty.
Rising Tensions Following the Engagement
The engagement between Anjali Reddy and Somala Raghurami Reddy took place on September 24. Raghurami Reddy resides in the United States, and the wedding date had been locked in for November 25, with Sharmila keen on hosting the main festivities at the Bengaluru property. Communication regarding the venue refusal was conveyed by Jagan Mohan Reddy through their mother, YS Vijayamma.
According to aides close to Sharmila, Vijayamma actively intervened and attempted to persuade Jagan Mohan Reddy to reconsider his stance and grant access to the estate. However, the former Chief Minister remained firm in his refusal, an outcome that has effectively strained personal relationships between maternal uncle and niece alongside existing sibling friction.
Security Logistics for High-Profile Dignitaries
The denial of the venue came as a serious operational setback because official wedding invitations had already been dispatched to guests across India. The organizing team now faces the urgent task of securing a location capable of accommodating high-profile logistics, seamless transit, and rigorous security cordons.
Sharmila has extended invitations to top national leaders from the Congress party as well as regional heads of state, including Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. Given the confirmed or anticipated presence of these high-security dignitaries, locking down a secure and fully equipped venue on short notice represents a formidable logistical undertaking for the organizers.
