    Law enforcement authorities have registered a case against five Samajwadi Party members along with several unidentified individuals for allegedly staging demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, shouting slogans, torching his effigy and obstructing vehicular traffic, officials stated on Wednesday (October 7, 2026). According to police allegations, the agitators raised slogans and voiced objectionable statements against Kumar without obtaining mandatory clearance from designated authorities. Their gathering on the arterial road triggered severe traffic congestion, causing considerable disruption to daily commuters, school students, women, local shopkeepers and vehicle drivers. Police noted that inputs were received on October 6 reporting that SP cadres were marching from beneath the Bholepur overbridge toward Ambedkar Tiraha while chanting slogans targeting the CEC. - PTI
