A fresh policy decision by the government has created significant momentum in the stock market, pushing shares of tea producer Andrew Yule & Company skyward by nearly 20 percent. While the stock had already shown upward movement over the previous two trading sessions, Monday brought a major catalyst that supercharged investor interest.
Mandatory Yule Tea Across Central Ministries
The Ministry of Heavy Industries issued a formal circular on Monday instructing all central government ministries, departments, office canteens, official meetings, conferences, and state functions to exclusively serve Yule Tea. The moment news of this official mandate hit the market, investors rushed to accumulate shares of the public sector enterprise, triggering massive buying pressure.
Intra-Day Surge and Market Trading
Driven by this overwhelming surge in demand, the company shares climbed 19.65 percent on the BSE to hit an intra-day high of 30.50 rupees. However, as the session progressed, some investors chose to book profits at higher levels, bringing the stock to a trading price of 28.11 rupees with a 10.28 percent gain around 1:00 PM.
Company Background and Tea Operations
Andrew Yule & Company Limited operates under the administrative control of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and stands as one of the oldest tea-producing entities in the country. The firm operates extensive tea estates located across Assam and West Bengal, producing Darjeeling, Dooars, and Assam teas under the Yule Tea brand, which includes orthodox, CTC, green tea, and flavored variants. The enterprise also supplies tea to the Parliament House through the Tea Board.
Relief from Financial Strain
According to the ministry, while the company products enjoy strong consumer appreciation, the enterprise has encountered severe financial difficulties due to various factors. In response, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry recommended establishing closer coordination across all government departments to promote and adopt Yule Tea. The ministry believes this institutional support and guaranteed demand will offer substantial relief, helping the company regain its financial stability.
