Indian equities witnessed divergent movements among blue-chip heavyweights last week, with four of the country's top ten valued companies adding over ₹1.43 lakh crore to their market capitalization, even as six major firms collectively shed ₹1.24 lakh crore. State Bank of India (SBI) emerged as the biggest gainer of the week, while state-run insurer Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) faced the sharpest drop in valuation.
Benchmark Indices Post Weekly Gains
Despite individual stock movements, overall market sentiment remained buoyant as major benchmark indices ended the week in green. The BSE Sensex advanced by 404.53 points or 0.51 percent, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 187.05 points or 0.76 percent. Among the top 10 firms, the combined market capitalization of four gainers increased by ₹1,43,251.54 crore. On the flip side, six decliners suffered a collective valuation loss amounting to ₹1,23,777.83 crore.
State Bank of India and Reliance Lead the Gainers
State Bank of India (SBI) saw the largest increase in market valuation during the week, boosting its market capitalization by ₹63,922.03 crore to reach ₹10,11,721.84 crore. Reliance Industries followed suit with a market cap increase of ₹32,816.4 crore, taking its valuation to ₹18,01,925.19 crore. IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) added ₹31,875.35 crore to touch ₹8,87,770.13 crore. Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) registered a gain of ₹14,637.76 crore, taking its overall valuation to ₹5,56,482.45 crore.
LIC and Bajaj Finance Experience Significant Pullbacks
Conversely, six companies registered substantial losses in valuation. Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) posted the largest drop, shedding ₹40,543.23 crore to bring its market cap down to ₹4,96,891.82 crore. Non-banking financial company Bajaj Finance saw its valuation decline by ₹37,168.96 crore to ₹6,73,648.55 crore, reversing gains from the preceding week when it had emerged as the biggest gainer with an addition of ₹80,345.97 crore. HDFC Bank recorded a valuation loss of ₹24,183.16 crore, settling at ₹11,27,967.47 crore, while ICICI Bank's market cap slid by ₹9,507.67 crore to ₹10,20,370.63 crore. Telecom operator Bharti Airtel dipped by ₹7,581.65 crore to ₹12,22,423.98 crore, and FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever dropped by ₹4,793.16 crore to stand at ₹4,88,808.97 crore.
