Shares of jewellery maker PC Jeweller Ltd halted their four-day winning run on Thursday, September 24, as investors moved in to secure gains following an extended rally. The stock had surged to a fresh 52-week peak in the preceding session, setting up a prime window for short-term profit booking amid widespread weakness across the broader domestic equities market.
Intraday Price Action and Trading Range
On the NSE, PC Jeweller commenced Thursday's session at Rs 14.61 per share. Early buying momentum pushed the stock to an intraday high of Rs 14.65, but selling pressure quickly took hold as market participants offloaded positions at elevated levels. The counter subsequently retreated to touch an intraday low of Rs 14.01 before recouping a fraction of its losses.
By the closing bell, the stock settled at Rs 14.26, marking a decline of Rs 0.21, or 1.45%, compared to its previous closing price of around Rs 14.47. The pullback followed a robust upward streak wherein the equity had gained ground across four consecutive sessions. Just a day prior, on Wednesday, September 23, the stock had climbed to a fresh 52-week high of roughly Rs 14.87 before ending the trading day with solid gains.
Profit Taking Combined With Broader Market Pressures
The immediate catalyst behind Thursday's decline was standard profit booking after a steep multiday surge. Having gained substantial ground in the sessions leading up to Thursday, traders and short-term market participants capitalised on the newly established 52-week peak to lock in returns.
Compounding this trend was negative momentum across the wider market. A sharp retreat in domestic benchmark indices dampened risk tolerance, which had a pronounced effect on small-cap and mid-cap spaces. In an environment of cautious broader sentiment, equities that had experienced rapid recent price appreciation faced heightened difficulty in preserving their gains.
Settlement Reached With 13 Out of 14 Consortium Lenders
Despite the intraday stock price retreat, PC Jeweller has made substantial headway on its balance sheet cleanup. The company disclosed that it has discharged its outstanding dues with yet another lender in accordance with the settlement agreement struck with its banking consortium. With this latest transfer, the jewellery firm has resolved obligations with 13 out of its 14 consortium lenders.
This repayment brings the total proportion of consortium bank debt discharged to more than 99%. Management has expressed confidence that the remaining unsettled balance will be fully addressed within the month of September. Furthermore, the company highlighted that these settlements were finalized ahead of their officially stipulated due dates. The consistent pace of debt resolution has served as the core fundamental pillar driving investor interest and supporting the equity's recent climb.
Balance Sheet De-leveraging and Warrant Conversions
The substantial curtailment of outstanding bank obligations stands to meaningfully de-leverage PC Jeweller's balance sheet, reducing recurring finance expenses and balance sheet strain over time. However, debt eradication on its own does not dictate long-term corporate performance, which will ultimately hinge on sustainable operational execution and retail demand dynamics.
Alongside the debt milestones, the company announced another capital development on September 23 involving the allotment of 1.18 crore equity shares following the conversion of warrants. Through this transaction, PC Jeweller raised approximately Rs 16 crore, further augmenting its capital base as it attempts a comprehensive financial turnaround.
