The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its enforcement actions in the Mahadev online betting app scandal by arresting a wanted accused and alleged kingpin, Abhishek Kumar. The agency intercepted and detained him at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad immediately upon his arrival on a flight from Dubai. Investigators have highlighted that Abhishek Kumar played a pivotal operational role across the syndicate, actively managing online gambling networks, coordinating illicit betting panels, collecting funds, and utilizing these unauthorized proceeds to acquire immovable real estate properties in Dubai.
Seizure of Incriminating Material and Syndicate Connections
Following his apprehension at the airport, law enforcement officials searched Abhishek Kumar and seized various incriminating materials from his possession. Officials stated that these recovered items substantiate his direct and active involvement in driving the operations of the Mahadev betting network. The inquiry also established that he worked in close alignment with the primary figures behind the syndicate, specifically Saurabh Chandrakar and Shubham Soni, facilitating crucial operational layers for the enterprise.
Judicial Transit and Custody Remand in Raipur
Immediately after taking him into custody, the CBI produced Abhishek Kumar before a local magistrate court in Hyderabad to seek permission for his inter-state movement. The court granted a three-day transit remand, allowing federal investigators to transport him to Chhattisgarh. Upon arriving in Raipur, he was produced before the jurisdictional court. The Raipur court subsequently remanded the accused to two days of police custody under the CBI, granting the agency time for detailed custodial interrogation regarding the financial network.
Tracing Illegal Proceeds and Dubai Real Estate Holdings
A primary objective of the ongoing custodial probe involves mapping the exact trail of wealth generated from illicit online wagering. CBI findings point to Abhishek Kumar's direct participation in pooling syndicate funds and funneling the proceeds into acquiring substantial real estate assets located in Dubai. The agency is actively scrutinizing transactional records to trace the complete money trail generated through the criminal enterprise while continuing efforts to identify other absconding collaborators linked to these financial diversions.
13 Transferred FIRs, 8 Chargesheets, and 100 Named Accused
The federal probe originated when the Chhattisgarh government officially transferred 13 FIRs registered across various local police stations to the CBI for a centralized investigation. Since taking over the cases, the federal agency has significantly broadened the scrutiny, filing 8 separate chargesheets against 100 individuals implicated in the racket. Those chargesheeted encompass the platform's core promoters, local panel operators, hawala financiers, and certain public servants affiliated with the Chhattisgarh administration.
Extradition Efforts for Overseas Promoters
The CBI is vigorously pursuing diplomatic and international legal avenues to bring the main promoters of the Mahadev betting platform back to India to face judicial prosecution. As part of these efforts, authorities have secured 7 Red Corner Notices against key individuals involved in the network. Furthermore, 2 formal return proposals have already been submitted to overseas authorities, with active return proceedings underway against two specific accused persons located abroad.
