The Ministry of Tourism is hosting its annual international conclave in the high-altitude town of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, running from October 29 through October 31. This 14th edition of the International Tourism Mart is organized to spotlight Northeast India as a prominent tourism destination and travel hub. Designed as a unified business and networking arena, the event convenes international and domestic travel buyers alongside local sellers from across the region. The opening day itinerary incorporates cultural performances as well as a dedicated North East Bazaar to exhibit local craftsmanship and heritage.
High-Level Representation Marks the Official Opening
The inaugural session of the tourism conclave features the participation of Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Joining the opening proceedings are Minister of State for Tourism Suresh Gopi and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu. According to the official schedule shared by the ministry, the ceremonial opening is taking place on Thursday. The presence of key union and regional leaders underscores the central priority placed on developing economic opportunities and visitor traffic throughout the northeastern states.
Global Participation Spanning 22 Countries and 43 Buyers
More than 200 delegates and participants are expected to attend the tourism mart over its three days. To expand international market linkages for regional travel circuits, the ministry anticipates the presence of 43 overseas buyers arriving from 22 countries. The confirmed international contingent includes travel industry representatives from Australia, Bhutan, France, Germany, Indonesia, and Italy. The roster further features delegates from Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, and Singapore.
Official buyer listings also incorporate representatives from South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the UAE, the UK, and the US, alongside potential participants from additional nations. The gathering functions as an essential yearly conduit, establishing direct business contacts between foreign operators and tourism entrepreneurs based in the Northeast.
B2B Commercial Sessions and Regional Ministerial Talks
Alongside foreign participants, the mart welcomes domestic buyers to interact directly with regional sellers. Tourism enterprises and service operators representing all eight northeastern states are participating in the trade exchanges. The event structure prioritizes direct commercial engagement and the exploration of operational partnerships. Dedicated business-to-business B2B meetings are slated for October 30, specifically designed to help regional entrepreneurs secure broader commercial access.
On the sidelines of the trade event, a dedicated meeting of tourism ministers from the northeastern states is scheduled for October 30. Presided over by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, this ministerial conference will center on strengthening the collective tourism infrastructure of the region while improving inter-state cooperation among all stakeholder governments.
Flagship Conclave Returns to Tawang After 13-Year Gap
This 14th edition marks a return of the International Tourism Mart to Tawang after an interval of 13 years. The town previously hosted the second edition of the gathering in 2013, while the 2025 edition took place in Gangtok, Sikkim, during November. Described as the ministry's premier annual flagship property, the mart focuses on building sustained visibility for the Northeast in domestic as well as overseas travel sectors.
During the 2026 edition, dedicated presentations covering tourism products and key destinations are being delivered by all eight constituent states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. These presentations examine individual state attractions and distinctive travel offerings, while also presenting comprehensive regional circuits and shared itineraries spanning multiple states.
Technical Excursions to Cultural, Historic, and Natural Landmarks
To provide delegates with first-hand exposure to the destinations they are evaluating, the ministry has arranged a series of technical site visits. The excursion schedule includes prominent spiritual and heritage locations such as the Tawang Monastery and Urgelling Gompa, recognised as the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Historical sites on the circuit comprise the Jaswant Garh War Memorial and the Tawang War Memorial.
Delegates will also visit natural and village attractions including the Jang Waterfall, Buddha Park, Pankang Teng Tso Lake, and Shernup Village. These field tours are designed to showcase regional landscapes, spiritual landmarks, and local rural traditions, offering practical encounters that support the event's broader objective of building enduring commercial links for the region's tourism ecosystem.
