The confrontation erupted during a Sunday site visit to inspect road construction quality in West Delhi. Verma arrived at the location accompanied by local MLA Jarnail Singh and various supporters. An argument broke out over the standard of construction, with footage showing the legislator pulling a piece of the road surface apart with his hands. Tensions escalated further when another video surfaced showing the minister reaching toward a mobile phone and striking an individual. The person was subsequently identified as Sahib Singh, who manages social media content for Jarnail Singh and was recording the event.

Addressing the controversy, Verma maintained that opposition workers at the site hurled abusive remarks concerning his family, prompting an angry reaction.
