Seven people died in two unrelated road accidents in Karnataka's Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts on Monday. Four of the victims belonged to a single family that was returning to Bengaluru after visiting the Tirupati temple. Several other people were injured in the two crashes.
The first accident took place in the KGF taluk of Kolar district, killing four pilgrims from Bengaluru. The family, residents of the Vidyaranyapura area, had travelled to Tirupati for darshan of Lord Venkateswara.
Car rams divider and overturns near KGF
After completing the darshan, the family was driving back to Bengaluru when their car went out of control on the Chennai-Bengaluru expressway near Dodda Kari village in KGF taluk. The car slammed into a road divider and overturned. The impact was severe enough that all four occupants died on the spot. They were identified as Sharadamma, 70, Dikshita, 25, Devendra Kumar, 41, and Jishnu, 13. Three other people travelling in the same car, Vikas, Neetu and Advika, were injured and rushed to the government hospital in Bangarpet for treatment. A case has been registered at the Bethamangala police station, and officers are investigating why the car suddenly went out of control.
Labourers' car collides with mini goods vehicle in Chikkaballapur
The second accident occurred near Kothanur Gate in the Shidlaghatta taluk of Chikkaballapur district. A man named Ramachandrappa was driving around ten labourers from Mallikarjunapura village to Huzugur village for flower-picking work when their car collided with a mini goods vehicle. Three women from Mallikarjunapura died on the spot in the collision, while several other labourers travelling in the vehicle were injured. The injured were taken to the Shidlaghatta taluk hospital, where they are being treated. A case related to the accident has been registered at the Shidlaghatta Rural police station.
Two accidents, seven deaths in a single day
Together, the two accidents in different parts of Karnataka claimed seven lives on Monday and left several others injured. In one case, a family's joy after a religious trip to Tirupati turned into grief within moments; in the other, labourers heading out for a day's work lost their lives. Police in both districts have launched separate investigations to determine the exact circumstances behind the crashes.
