India is preparing to mark its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, with official national celebrations kicking off on the eve of the historic occasion. As per long-standing tradition, President Droupadi Murmu will deliver an address to the nation on the evening of August 14, 2026. The speech is scheduled to commence at 7:00 PM, beginning with the Hindi broadcast before transitioning to the English version.
Focus of the Presidential Address
The upcoming presidential speech is expected to center around the country's ongoing economic progress, democratic values, and social inclusion. President Murmu is anticipated to highlight India's developmental achievements while honoring the contributions and sacrifices of freedom fighters. The address will also emphasize the core duties of citizens in shaping the future of the republic.
Following the presidential address on the evening of August 14, the central national event will take place on August 15 at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi. On Independence Day morning, the Prime Minister will hoist the national tricolor and deliver the traditional address to the nation from the ramparts of the monument.
