The disturbance erupted during the arrival procession of the well-known ‘Mazgaoncha Morya’ Ganpati. Witnesses and authorities noted that the festive atmosphere turned tense when eggs were allegedly thrown from a nearby building directly onto the participants and the sacred idol. Providing details on the sequence of events, Ganpati mandal deputy secretary Vivek Rane stated that the incident occurred when their arrival Yatra was merely 30 to 40 meters away from the main pandal, pointing out that eggs were lobbed from a building directly onto the parade. Calling the act entirely unacceptable, organizers demanded stringent legal action against all responsible parties. The escalating hostility between the two factions was eventually contained after police intervened and managed the crowd.
Previous Tragedy in Bhuleshwar Involving Giant Idol Collapse
This tense episode follows another major accident that occurred in Mumbai's Bhuleshwar area on a Saturday night at around 10 PM, where a 22-foot-tall Ganesha idol collapsed, resulting in two fatalities. Five other individuals sustained injuries in that disaster, including two young girls aged 5 and 7 years old. Police investigations revealed that the massive idol was being transported from Lalbagh to Bhuleshwar when the welding support structure located at the back of the idol snapped just 50 to 60 meters before reaching the destination pandal.
