A shocking and serious case has emerged from Ludhiana, Punjab, where a young woman named Kritika Verma has leveled grave allegations against her husband, Karanbir, and her in-laws. The victim claims she was trapped in a fraudulent marriage and subsequently pressured to forcefully convert to Christianity, alongside facing severe physical abuse and dowry demands. Following Kritika's formal complaint, local police have registered an FIR and launched a manhunt to trace the absconding accused persons, assuring their swift arrest.
How the Relationship Began
According to the victim Kritika, she first connected with Karanbir through Instagram, which was followed by a meeting during a bike-riding excursion. During their initial interactions, Karanbir introduced himself as Karanbir Singh Sidhu belonging to the Jatt-Sikh community. After their relationship progressed, the couple got married on September 2, 2026, according to Hindu rituals at the Shani Shiv Mandir located in the Sant Vihar area of Ludhiana. Kritika's Bidai took place a few days later on September 5, after which she moved into her marital home, unaware of the ordeal awaiting her.
Pressure to Convert and Pool Incident
Kritika alleged that upon reaching her marital home on October 5, her father-in-law laid down a strict condition that the marriage would only be accepted if she converted to Christianity. She stated that her phone was forcibly switched off at night, and she was taken to a swimming pool built on the third floor of the house, where she was forced to take dips. The young woman also accused family members of inappropriate touching and recording videos during the incident. Furthermore, Kritika claimed that her husband had a tattoo bearing the name 'Nannu' along with the date October 16, 2021, etched on his chest, and alleged that he was involved in an illicit relationship with another woman.
Dowry Demands and Attack on Family
The victim stated that the demands for 10 lakh rupees and various other dowry items were persistently made, and upon failure to fulfill them, she was ousted from the house. She subsequently began living in a rented accommodation in Joginder Nagar, Habowal, where she alleged the in-laws tracked her down and assaulted her, with video footage of the incident surfacing publicly. When Kritika's biological family strongly objected to this mistreatment, the in-laws allegedly attacked them as well. Her father sustained serious injuries during the assault and had to be admitted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Missionary Funding Allegations and Police Probe
Kritika further alleged that her in-laws take substantial sums of money from Christian missionary organizations, suggesting that this might be a recurring pattern or profession for the family. According to police authorities, an appropriate FIR has been registered in connection with the matter, and a thorough investigation is currently underway. Police teams are actively searching for the suspects who fled following the filing of the case and have reiterated that the accused will be apprehended soon.
