Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has taken a sharp swipe at the BJP government in a fresh post on the social media platform X, invoking the Ganga cleanup movement and the tribal farmer protests against the Ken-Betwa river linking project.
G.D. Agarwal's death recalled
In his post, Akhilesh Yadav wrote that G.D. Agarwal had remained on a continuous hunger strike demanding the upliftment of Mother Ganga. He repeatedly placed his demand before the BJP government, but according to the post, it was never heard. Akhilesh Yadav said this silence eventually cost G.D. Agarwal his life.
Sonam Wangchuk and Ken-Betwa protesters named
The same post also named Sonam Wangchuk and the tribal farmer agitators protesting the Ken-Betwa project, raising the question of what kind of expectation they could have from the BJP. However, the sentence was left incomplete in the post, which then carried a link, leaving the full context unclear.
Public reaction
The post drew a mixed response online. A number of users backed Akhilesh Yadav's criticism of the BJP government's handling of the issue, while others voiced sharp displeasure over the government's approach.
