Popularly known as the Missile Man of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's pioneering work at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) reshaped India's technological landscape. He served as the project director for India's first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-3), which successfully deployed the Rohini satellite in near-Earth orbit. Subsequently, Dr Kalam played an instrumental role in designing and developing indigenous guided missiles, including the Agni and Prithvi systems. During the Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, his technical vision and leadership were central to establishing India's nuclear deterrence capability.
