British tennis player Arthur Fery has been selected to represent Great Britain in the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Ecuador, scheduled to take place in September. The lineup features British number one Cameron Norrie alongside Jacob Fearnley, Henry Patten, and Lloyd Glasspool. The matches will be hosted at London's Copper Box Arena, and a fifth player will be added to the squad closer to the event.
Sharing his thoughts on the selection, Arthur Fery expressed that he is deeply proud to represent his country once again. He noted that competing at home within the World Group while attempting to qualify for the final eight presents a slightly different scenario. He added that while there might be some extra pressure involved, he feels fully prepared to handle it.
This selection marks Fery's first appearance in England since his memorable run at Wimbledon. As a wildcard entry into his home Grand Slam, the 24-year-old climbed to a career-high world ranking of 36. However, a persistent arm injury sidelined him for a significant period, causing his ranking to tumble from fourth down to 160th over a span of 12 months.
The two-day tie will take place on 19 and 20 September under a best-of-five format. Day one will feature two singles matches, while day two will begin with a doubles encounter followed by two more singles matches. Notably, former world number four Jack Draper has not been included in the current squad.
