A large stretch of Jamui district in Bihar is covered by forest land, and tucked inside the Giddheshwar wildlife area is a patch that has quietly turned into a favourite for adventure seekers. About 5 kilometres from the Giddheshwar temple, at the foothills of Yogeshwar hill, lies an area known for its scenic, untouched surroundings. Moving past the Giddheshwar temple, this stretch begins near the Laldaiya causeway bridge.
Where the trail actually begins
Right at the Laldaiya causeway bridge, the paved main road comes to an end, and from there the entire journey continues on rocky, uneven paths. Anyone planning a visit can begin the climb up the hill right from near this bridge.
The thrill of biking on rocky trails
Riding a bike over these rugged, stone strewn hill paths brings its own kind of excitement. Thick bushes line both sides of the trail, tall hills rise on either side, long stretches of trees flank the route, and greenery spreads in every direction, offering a sense of calm that is hard to find elsewhere. It is this combination that has slowly made the spot a favourite among adventure enthusiasts.
Away from the crowds, a path that links villages
This trail connects several villages tucked inside the forest to the district headquarters. Apart from the residents of these villages, very few outsiders make their way here, which is why the area rarely sees any real crowd. Continuing along the same path, travellers eventually reach the foothill area nestled between five hills surrounding Giddheshwar.
A valley shaped by more than seven hills
The Giddheshwar wildlife area is home to more than seven hills of varying sizes, which together form a large valley. Walking further down the same trail leads straight into this valley, which is strikingly beautiful to look at. Once there, hills surround the visitor on every side, giving the feeling of standing inside a bowl formed entirely by mountains.
Waterfalls, dams and a popular picnic spot
Local youths often head to this hilly stretch for picnics. Scattered among these hills are several small waterfalls and dams that hold water throughout the year. Among them, the Panchbhur waterfall has become especially popular with visitors in recent times.
Anyone planning a trip to Jamui and looking for adventure does not need to spend lakhs of rupees to enjoy it. A day out here with friends offers a full dose of nature and adventure at almost no cost.
