Telangana is set to unveil its first-ever glass bridge over the historic Yellamma Cheruvu lake in the Husnabad town of Siddipet district. Featuring an eye-catching heart-shaped design, the glass structure is part of a broader beautification project dedicated to revitalizing the historic water body from the Kakatiya dynasty. Built with an expenditure of approximately 5 crore rupees, the walkway extends around 150 meters in length and measures 1.5 meters, or nearly 5 feet, in width. Positioned roughly 20 feet above the lake surface, the structure uses high-strength transparent glass panels that allow visitors to see the water directly beneath their feet, creating a dramatic sense of walking through thin air.
Infrastructure Expansion and Lakefront Amenities
Conceptualized under the leadership of Husnabad MLA and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, the project aims to bridge the gap in rural tourism infrastructure by bringing contemporary public spaces to smaller towns. The lakefront development draws inspiration from iconic urban destinations such as Hyderabad's Tank Bund and Siddipet's Komati Cheruvu. Alongside the signature glass bridge, the site is being equipped with a host of public facilities designed for leisure and wellness. These additions feature structured walking tracks, a dedicated Bathukamma Ghat for regional festivals, thoughtfully manicured landscape gardens, an interactive children's play area, and an open-air gym.
Safety Evaluations and Broader Tourism Circuit
Engineers and administrative teams are presently executing comprehensive safety checks and putting the finishing touches on the facility. The bridge will formally welcome visitors once all safety clearance tests and structural inspections are certified. To optimize the economic potential of the venue, local administrative planners are integrating Yellamma Cheruvu into a larger tourist itinerary. This circuit will connect the lake to nearby heritage and eco-tourism sites, including the ancient Bhairava Swamy Temple, the natural Rayakal Waterfalls, and the historical Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud Fort. Authorities expect this interconnected circuit to significantly uplift the regional economy and generate new livelihood opportunities for surrounding communities.
